Super Mario Maker super-mario-maker.jpg

Alright, seeing as this is my first review I will break games down into these categories.
Sound, Visuals, Gameplay, and Narrative (The last may or may not be included such as in this case seeing as this game does not include a story) and then I will give the game a five star rating with no decimals because decimals are stupid.
1 ⭐️= I do not like this game
2⭐️⭐️= This isn't something I enjoy but has it's merits
3⭐️⭐️⭐️= I enjoyed the title but would rather play something else
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️= I really enjoyed the title suggest you buy
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️= I can't put it down and strongly believe you may as well

Enough introduction let's get started will gameplay the root of any Game!

Gameplay is broken into two sections that greet on the home screen
Make and Play. Let's start with Making levels since this is the most advertised aspect of the game and the real meat and potatoes of the game hence the title Super Mario Maker.
In Super Mario Maker there are 4 themes Super Mario Bros., Super a Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Each theme looks and sounds great in HD my personal favourite theme is Super Mario World it's just vibrant. There are also level types such as Castle, Underwater, and Ghost House along with a wealth of assets to put in levels such as power ups, enemies, platforms and even sound effects. Making levels is very fun allowing the player to stretch their creative muscles and share their ideas with friends. Making levels is easy, the player drags and drops items into the level using the Gamepad. Testing is easy allowing you to switch between playing and creating seamlessly by pressing a button on the bottom left corner of the screen. Hotkeys allow you erase, grab, copy with ease. There is are icons that allow to undo mistakes and reset levels. All of these things together make for a fun and invigorating experience.

Next up, Playing user generated levels. Playing levels presents itself in a couple ways.
There's 10 Mario Challenge in which you have 10 lives to beat a set number of levels made by Nintendo staff this mode is fun but not overly exciting. 100 Mario Challenge is the same except the obvious jump in lives and that the levels you play are made by players instead. This mode is interesting but has the same issues Course World has, there are way too many bad levels which is to be expected from a game made up of 99% user generated levels? But the levels that are good are fun and inspire you to make your own hopefully fun levels as well. Searching tools okay, you can sort by difficulty based on complete percentage, region, and date of upload. If that doesn't quite float your boat you can also use Super Mario Maker Bookmarks a website linked to Nintendo Network allowing you to "bookmark" levels you wish to play in the future.

Visuals are beautiful, I rarely experienced drops in frame. Every theme runs in HD and looks a lot like the original games even things like Boos that don’t exist in Super Mario Bros. look as if they were in the original since the beginning.

Finally, Sound while the original Mario theme is great it would be better if you could customize the music in your levels instead you are stuck with one song fixed to each level theme. So that means four songs for ghost house spread across each game theme. Four songs for Ground for each game theme and so on.

In conclusion, Super Mario Maker is very entertaining and I suggest you play it. While it isn’t going to take over all your time it is worth a purchase.

Overall, Super Mario Maker gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
